Donation opens ‘world of possibilities’ to young readers in Port Colborne

The Port Colborne Public Library has doubled down on its commitment to helping young readers.
Thanks to a $1,000 donation from the Port Colborne Lions Club, the library has added to its collection of Wonderbooks, a print book with a ready-to-play audiobook inside.
Having first purchased 18 Wonderbooks in 2023, thanks to a previous donation from the Lions Club, the library’s Chief Executive Officer Rachel Tkachuk said the state-of-the-art children’s reading resources are flying off the shelves.
Smoke Testing of the Sanitary Sewer to begin August 12 to 15, 2024

Beginning on August 12, 2024, GEI Consultants is scheduled to complete smoke testing in the Rosemount area. Smoke testing consists of blowing smoke into the sewers and canvassing the area above ground to document locations where the smoke is observed. The purpose is to find points of storm water cross connections into the sanitary sewers, resulting in higher risk for basement flooding.

Update on the 46th Annual Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival

The Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival continues today with a fantastic lineup of activities and events throughout the downtown area and concerts at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park.
Canal Days is a free festival, and concerts have strict capacity limits based on permitting from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Last night at the mainstage concerts, the park reached capacity just prior to 9:30 p.m. and many hopeful concertgoers were unable to be admitted inside the fenced-in area.

Michener Culvert Replacement begin August 15

Beginning on August 12, 2024, County Line Construction Inc. is scheduled to replace the Michener culvert on Weaver Road. The anticipated completion date is August 30, 2024.
During the construction, the City will make every effort to minimize impacts to residents. Clear signage and detours will be provided to direct traffic. No work will be performed on weekends.
