June is recreation and parks month - a provincial movement that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social, and environmental health. What better time than June to get active and PORTicipate at all the facilities, amenities, events, and programs here in Port Colborne.


The PORTicipate Pass – more than a beach pass!

The PORTicipate Pass can now be used for additional incentives for Port Colborne residents.

The Vale Health & Wellness Centre will be offering the following free programs for those residents and families that present their PORTicipate Pass:

  • Public skating: June 12 and 26 from 12 to 1:20 p.m.
  • Stick & puck: June 10 and 24 from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m.
  • 50+ PAYP: June 8 and 22 from 10:30 to 11:50 a.m.
  • Sr. & adult skate: June 8 and 22 from 12 to 12:50 p.m.
  • Parents & tots: June 8 and 22 from 1 to 2:20 p.m.

The YMCA will also be offering the following free programming as part of the PORTicipate Pass initiative:

  • Pickleball: June 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. (13yrs+)
  • Open swim: June 11 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. (all ages)
  • Outdoor yoga class: June 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park (13yrs+) 
  • Open family gym on June 19 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (all ages)

All participants must show their PORTicipate Pass and government issued identification (for residents 16 years and older) to access the free programming. Parents can check-in with their pass to grant their children free access.

The PORTicipate Pass also grants Port Colborne residents FREE access to Port Colborne’s two public beaches, Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach.

Boating season is here!

Sugarloaf Marina's public boat ramp is open, and passes are available for purchase by visiting www.portcolborne.ca/sugarloafmarina.

Event season is back!

The city’s recreation division is also working with numerous community groups and service clubs offering amazing events throughout the city in the month of June and all season long, including: 

  • Community Living 60th Anniversary at Market Square/King George Park Saturday, June 4 from 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Port Colborne Downtown Cruise Nights Thursday evenings
  • Port Colborne District Conservation Club Kids Fishing Derby at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park on Sunday, June 19, starting at 8 a.m.
  • Budweiser CanAm Walleye Challenge at Sugarloaf Marina on Friday, June 24, and Saturday June 25 at Sugarloaf Marina
  • Port Colborne Optimist Club Presents Canada Day Celebrations at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park Friday July 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. followed by fireworks in Downtown Port Colborne at 10 p.m.
  • N22 Canada Summer Games Torch Relay at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival, July 29 to Aug. 1
