Nickel Beach

Beach season is here, and the City looks forward to welcoming non-Port Colborne residents to Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach starting Wednesday, June 2.

As the City of Port Colborne begins to safely reopen outdoor recreational facilities, per provincial guidelines, both Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach will welcome visitors from outside Port Colborne starting this week. With the health and safety of residents and staff a top priority, City staff worked diligently to ensure safety policies and procedures were implemented prior to opening for the 2021 beach season.

“Warmer weather is here and it’s time to start thinking of summer plans,” said Mayor Bill Steele. “As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to providing an exceptional experience while ensuring the health and safety of our residents and guests. It was great to see so many Port Colborne citizens taking advantage of the local beaches the last two weekends. Now we look forward to welcoming additional visitors starting this Wednesday.”

New this year, non-residents, including those living in Niagara, will need to purchase a Nickel Beach day pass prior to accessing the beach. Visitors are encouraged to purchase their Nickel Beach pass in advance to ensure there are still beachfront parking spots available. Online payments can be made by VISA, MasterCard or Visa Debit, and visitors will be required to show proof of purchase prior to accessing the beach. Payments at Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach will be on-site, with debit or credit only; cash will not be accepted. Daily beach rates and more information on how to purchase a pass can be found on the City’s website.

“City staff are ready and excited to welcome visitors to our beautiful beaches,” said Bryan Theal, Manager of Recreation. “Everyone has worked hard to ensure a safe reopening and I’m confident visitors, including Port Colborne residents and non-residents, will have an exceptional beach experience this season.
