Shoreline

With beach season approaching, the City of Port Colborne would like to remind residents and visitors that parking restrictions will be in effect along Lake Erie’s shoreline, effective May 1 to Oct. 31, 2022.

Beach season is a busy time in Port Colborne and by prohibiting parking on several roads leading to Lake Erie shoreline ensures the proper movement of traffic and safety of the public. Visitors and residents are also reminded that the only two public beaches in Port Colborne are Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach.

“We’re encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy our public beaches, Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, where there is ample parking and washroom facilities for residents and visitors to use”, said Mayor Bill Steele.

Below is a list of all roads and firelanes where parking will be prohibited, pursuant to the 2022 Prohibition Certificate, and in addition to any parking restrictions that may already exist in referenced areas.

To avoid overcrowding at road allowances and to ensure public safety, by-law officers will enforce violations daily and issue tickets accordingly.

To help residents and visitors understand the municipal by-laws for parking at city road ends along Lake Erie, staff have created descriptive maps for each of the road ends to clearly identify by-law restrictions and allowances.

The City of Port Colborne, in consultation with Sierra Planning, has undertaken a study of the north/south roads that terminate at the Lake Erie shoreline, including Lorraine Road, Weaver Road, Pinecrest Road, Cedar Bay Road, Silver Bay Road, Wyldewood Road, Pleasant Beach Road, and Holloway Bay Road. The final report from this study will be presented to Council at a special virtual public meeting on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. For more information about this study and public meeting, visit www.portcolborne.ca/currentprojects.
