NRPS Media Release

On August 2, 2022, at approximately 11:00am 6 District Port Colborne uniform officers responded to a report of an escaped wolf.

Officers attended an address in the area of Main Street West and Cement Road in City of Port Colborne.  The initial investigation has determined that a white Artic wolf had been rescued from a northern area of Ontario and was residing in western Port Colborne.

The adult female wolf dug out of its enclosure on August 2, 2022, at approximately 9:00am.  After the public reported sightings, 6 District officers and an officer from the Niagara Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) tracked the wolf back to the general area where it escaped from.

Members of the public are strongly encouraged to not go looking for the wolf.  Forcing an interaction could cause a negative outcome for the human and the wolf. Pressuring the wolf could also cause it to run, making its capture more difficult.  The public in the area are being cautioned to be aware of their personal safety and that of their pets.

We are working closely with the City of Port Colborne and the Niagara SPCA.

Anyone who may see the wolf is asked to contact their local Niagara SPCA 905-735-1552 extension 3 or the Communications Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111 “Dispatch”.
