TPH Academy is thrilled to announce their expansion in Ontario, Canada with a Niagara Region campus coming Spring of 2023. Located at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre in Port Colborne, Ontario, TPH Academy Niagara will offer a blended learning environment for young athletes to Study, Train, and Play. Prospective families and student-athletes can learn more about the TPH Academy model, speak to a director, and submit their early applications by visiting the TPH Academy Niagara website.

“The heart of TPH Academy’s purpose is to advance, in and beyond the game, the next generation of impact players,” shared TPH Academy CEO Alan Keeso. “We are looking forward to welcoming student-athletes and families of the Niagara Region to experience this unique environment we’ve created, where student-athletes can grow together in and out of the classroom, all while working towards their academic and athletic goals.”

TPH Academy is an academic, athletic, and mentorship program that provides student- athletes the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice, field, court, or turf, as well as in the classroom. Focusing on the individual, the TPH Academy model helps strengthen each student’s athleticism, training habits, mental game, and academic prowess, preparing them for the next level, whether in their sports or education.

“We’re extremely grateful to Bryan Theal, Manager of Recreation for the City of Port Colborne, and the City of Port Colborne for opening their doors and inviting TPH Academy to the Niagara Region,” said Keeso. “We are excited to meet prospective student-athletes and their families, and we couldn’t be more honored to be welcomed into the Niagara community.”

Positioned to supplement and support the incredible hockey and sports opportunities young athletes have in the Niagara Region, TPH Academy is not a club or a team. Rather, the program takes a holistic approach towards the development of the student-athlete, focusing on the individual in their academic and athletic efforts. With an emphasis on the player as a whole, TPH Academy staff are able to work one on one with young athletes and provide specialized focus on specific skills, habits, and aspects of their play that they can take back to their clubs and teams.

As the TPH Niagara home base, Vale Health & Wellness Centre offers a world-class, mini campus-style setting for TPH Academy student-athletes. Boasting two sheets of ice, outdoor athletic fields, an indoor gymnasium with basketball courts and pickleball courts, as well as space allocated for sport-specific dry-land and weight training, TPH Academy Niagara students will have ample opportunity to develop their athletic skills in and outside their field of play. Student-athletes can expect a flexible, mastery-based academic programme, combining virtual learning with in-person, on-site academic support and facilitation. TPH Academy Niagara students will earn their academic credentials through Ontario-certified and NCAA-accredited courseware that can be completed at any time, from any laptop, tablet or mobile device, whether in the TPH Academy classroom or on the move for sports travel. With a comprehensive course catalogue including AP, Honors, and Foreign language courses, and a wide range of elective course offerings,, TPH Academy Niagara students are well-positioned to receive a world-class education while still pursuing their athletic goals. Ultimately, they’ll be positioned well to enter university or college fully prepared.

“Many student-athletes face the reality that elite sports participation requires hours of travel and training that aren’t conducive to a prosperous academic experience. They get to a certain grade or level, and feel they have to decide between their academic and athletic goals,” shared Keeso. “By providing an environment in which students can focus their time, energy, and attention to their academics, while remaining committed to athletic progress, the TPH Academy model eases that decision by offering the ultimate academic and athletic experience.”

The TPH Academy model is an individualized and customized experience that is tailored to when, where, and how each student-athlete can Study, Train and Play to newfound levels of potential. Honoring the unique experiences and learning styles of each student-athlete, TPH Academy customizes the programme to their specific needs. If a student struggles to balance school and sports, TPH Academy staff can work with the student to help prioritize their work and manage their time. With travel for a weekend tournament scheduled on Thursday, TPH Academy academic directors can front-load the coursework for this particular student, so that they can focus solely on their athletics come Thursday.

Included in the TPH Academy model are opportunities for real-world and added value experiences such as field trips, community service outings, guest speaker sessions, and student-centered activities. This approach aims to develop well-rounded student-athletes in the game and in their communities. Additionally, students have access to leadership and personal development opportunities, including Coach FA’s Mentorship Programme, led by TPH COO and Coach Francis Anzalone. TPH Academy Niagara students learn valuable life skills such as leadership, time and project management, and healthy dietary and mental habits.
