The Niagara IceDogs return to Port Colborne Mon., Sept.5, 2022, to take on the Windsor Spitfires at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre, 550 Elizabeth Street. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., warmups at 1 p.m., with a 2 p.m. game time.

“After three long years, we are excited to be back in the City of Port Colborne. We know how many IceDogs fans are in the area, and we see this as an opportunity to thank them for their continued support,” said John Burns, Niagara Ice Dogs media relations manager. We hope to see the Vale Health & Wellness Centre packed on Sept. 5 to cheer on the Dogs!”

Tickets for the game are $10 each, general admission. Revenue from the game will support Port Colborne Wave Girl’s Hockey and the Canadian Forces Soldier On program.

“We’re excited for the Niagara IceDogs return to Port Colborne, but even more excited that the game will be supporting youth hockey in our community,” said Mayor Bill Steele.  “That is really what it is all about, supporting the next generation of players. Programs, like Wave Hockey, that support youth sports, is what we envisioned when we built the Vale Health & Wellness Centre and opened the doors in 2013.”

Fun facts: The last time the IceDogs played in Port Colborne was 2019 for an exhibition game against the Barrie Colts. Prior to 2019, the last time the City of Port Colborne hosted a major Junior Hockey game was more than 50 years prior. Back in the late 1960’s at the Westside Arena, the Jr. A Niagara Falls Flyers used to come into Port Colborne to play exhibition games against the Port Colborne Jr. B Sailors.
