Farmers'Market

The 2022 market season begins in April this year with an Easter Market on Thursday, April 14th. On this occasion, the market will be open 8:00 AM to 12 noon. There will be special treats for children and adults with all the Easter goodies to make your family celebration the best ever with freshly baked goodies, meats, cheeses, fresh-cut flowers, and last-minute gift ideas!

The official start of the regular season is Friday, April 22, 2022, every Friday morning from 8:00 A.M. till 12:00 PM, until October 28, 2022. For the Early Bird shoppers, the market vendors will be ready for you at 7:00 AM. So, if you need to come early to avoid the crowd or you have to get to work this will help you get your shopping done.

Throughout the season the market will feature entertainment for all ages. Children’s activities and other events are planned as well. Follow social media and print media for the details.

The market has 95% of last year’s vendors returning with new farmers joining the market each week and more marketplace vendors too.

The Mini Markets will be featured in November and early December with eight to ten vendors showcasing their end-of-season produce and products. A Christmas Market is also in the planning stages and further announcements will be made later in the year.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Just imagine the fresh, juicy red strawberries or field-ripened tomatoes picked that morning and being served on your dinner table tonight! Along with the incredible selection of farm-fresh, never-refrigerated, warm-from-the-fields Ontario produce, remember all the delicious extras the Farmers’ Market has to offer.
The Port Colborne Farmers’ Market is a producer-based market. Vendors must grow or produce what they sell themselves. “We are proud of the wide range of quality produce, foods, and goods available at our market,” says Market Manager Mary-Lou Ambrose-Little. “You will find seasonal fruits and vegetables, certified organic produce, local honey, maple syrup, art, baked goods, artisanal foods, health and wellness products”

The market is a nice blend of seasonal vendors who are at the market every week, occasional vendors who come a few times each season, non-profit groups, community organizations, and the brick-and-mortar businesses downtown.

In 2021 the market will provide the opportunity for artisans, crafters, and business entrepreneurs to participate in Pop Up Markets as a means to assist these local businesses to introduce themselves to the community. This year, the market will introduce a new section, Marketplace to showcase local businesses on every market day. The vendors will be located in King George Park.

BECOMING A VENDOR
In order to become a vendor at the Port Colborne Farmers’ Market, you must sell fresh first quality (unless specifically labeled) Ontario grown or manufactured products; produce, baked/prepared foods, and flowers. Meat, egg, and dairy products will be allowed with appropriate refrigeration, subject to all health regulations. All bakery and prepared food products must be from a Public Health inspected kitchen or commercial bakery.

Special Vendors are subject to approval by the Market Manager and allowed to sell only what is listed on the market applications. This category is used mostly to allow health/education-related businesses access to a market booth that does not directly create a tangible product for sale such as (but not limited to) yoga instructors, chiropractors, massage therapists, nutritionists, etc.
