Whether it’s sipping a beverage on a patio, or shopping at a local boutique, the City of Port Colborne is encouraging residents to support local as Niagara moves to Step 1 of the provincial Roadmap to Reopen.

“With so many fantastic local restaurants, boutiques, and cafés, I hope everyone takes advantage of this beautiful sunny weekend to explore Port Colborne,” said Mayor Bill Steele. “As we all know, it’s been a very challenging year for local businesses, our economy and this community. As Niagara begins to reopen, I hope residents continue to support local.”

Starting today, Friday, June 11, Ontario moves to Step 1 of the Roadmap to Reopen, which focuses on resuming outdoor activities with smaller crowds where the transmission of COVID-19 is lower and permitting limited retail with restrictions. This includes:

  • Outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people
  • Outdoor dining with up to four people per table
    • Diners at each table must be members of the same household, with the exception of an additional person who is essential to physical and mental health of the party such as caregivers
    • Non-essential retail at 15 per cent capacity

“As beaches, recreational activities, outdoor fitness classes and local businesses begin to reopen, let’s remember to be patient and kind to one another,” said Mayor Steele. “This is going to be a transition for all of us. I ask that everyone be mindful of public health social distancing directives to keep Port Colborne and Niagara safe.”

As a community anchored in resilience, City staff will work with regional and provincial stakeholders to develop a sustainable economic recovery plan. By supporting a local business during the provincial three-step plan, you’re supporting a community. Step 1 will allow the province to safely and cautiously open, with the goal of gradually lifting public health measures based on vaccination rates and health care indicators.
