The City of Port Colborne, in collaboration with Civica Infrastructure Inc. will be conducting sanitary maintenance on Wellington Street, Dolphin Street, Page Street, Berkley Street, Chippawa Street, Willard Street and Main Street East. This proactive program includes flushing, CCTV inspection of main sewer lines aimed at ensuring the continued efficiency of our sewage systems.

Commencing on March 1, 2024, the maintenance work is expected to conclude by March 8, 2024. The designated working hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Scope of Work:

The maintenance involves cleaning the sanitary sewer main between maintenance holes in the public right-of-way. The process, carried out by a Vactor truck, utilizes a high-pressure flushing nozzle for cleaning and a vacuum tube for debris removal. This process may create a vacuum inside the pipe, impacting water levels in the household.

Impact on Residents:

  • The cleaning process may cause gurgling or bubbling in the water traps of toilets, sinks or floor drains.
  • Homes with insufficient venting may experience water being drawn out into the service, resulting in potential odours of sewage.
  • After the flushing is completed in front of your residence, restore water in the traps by running cold water into them.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain the integrity of our sewage systems. Your patience during this maintenance period is appreciated for the continued efficiency of our community’s infrastructure.
