Mayor William Steele was joined by representatives from Vale Base Metals and the media on Thursday, June 26, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Lockview Park, on the east side of the Welland Canal.
The ceremony was held to celebrate a renovation to Lockview Park that included increased park space, a walking path, a basketball court, a gazebo, benches, new trees, and a playground with a rubber soft landing.
Totalling $950,000, the City of Port Colborne contributed $396,000 to the project, while the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) gave $204,000, and Vale Base Metals donated $350,000.
After thanking Vale Base Metals and the CCBF for their contributions, and the City’s Public Works team for completing the project, Mayor Steele said the park adds to Port Colborne’s existing outdoor recreational spaces.
“I often tell folks about our amazing parks here in Port Colborne, and this freshly renovated and exciting space is one more example of that,” he said. “It fits in perfectly to our strategic pillar of having a welcoming, livable and healthy community, and I know it will be enjoyed for a wide variety of uses for generations to come.”
The City of Port Colborne thanks residents for their patience as the renovations were completed.
