The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum is inviting the community to journey back to the ‘70s as it celebrates its historic 50th anniversary.
On Sunday, July 6, the Museum will revive the spirit of the 1970s with a retro-themed picnic – a tribute to its founding decade. Classic cars, timeless music and vintage attire are all features of the event, which will be hosted on the Museum grounds from noon to 4 p.m. Local food vendors will be on site, with lawn games and family-friendly activities promising fun for all ages.
The much-anticipated event is presented by the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum’s 50th Anniversary Committee, which hopes it will offer an opportunity to revisit cherished memories while celebrating the Museum’s rich history in Port Colborne.
“For half a century, the Museum has been a cultural hub for the community, providing educational resources, preserving local heritage, and fostering community engagement,” explains Museum Curator Michelle Mason. “The Museum is a focal point for many events that bring the city together, and we are excited to keep this legacy in the coming years by continuing to offer a place in our community for people to gather and learn, together.”
The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum first opened its doors to the public on May 31, 1975. Since then, it has played a significant role in Port Colborne’s history, having served as the original site of early Canal Days festivals. Over the past 50 years, the Museum has welcomed thousands of visitors, offering them the opportunity to explore a local heritage collection featuring more than 18,000 artifacts.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their best ‘70s attire to celebrate the Museum’s anniversary. Admission is free, and the event is open to all ages.
