With April Break just around the corner, the Port Colborne Public Library is reminding residents it’s not too late to PORTicipate and register for some virtual fun.

“The library is proud to offer free virtual programs to our residents during April Break,” said Susan Therrien, Director of Library Services. “Although the physical doors to the library may be closed, we’re still here to support the community and offer various programs. We encourage kids of all ages to PORTicipate in these great activities.”

The following free virtual programs will be offered next week and there is still time to register:

Crayola® Imagine Arts Academy™: Coiled Turtles

Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2021

Time: 3:15 – 4:30 p.m.

From sleek sea turtles to sturdy, land-based tortoises, turtles come in many shapes and sizes, and can be found in different habitats. They also face many threats, so they need our help! Kids create unique turtle sculptures to inspire people and raise awareness. They start by sculpting a coil to make the shell and then add extra pieces and colors to make their own turtle sculptures.

  • Supply kits will be provided for each registered child
  • Library staff will contact you when supply kits are ready to be picked up
  • Kits can be picked up from the Port Colborne Public Library during curbside hours
  • Once your kit has been picked up, you will need to register for your Zoom Meeting link, details will be provided in your craft kit

Interactive Online Magic Show with Chris Pilsworth, Your Amazement Expert!

Date: Thursday, April 15, 2021

Time: 3:15 – 4:30 p.m.

Prepare to be amazed with the magical Chris Pilsworth. Your family won’t want to miss this amazing interactive show!

  • A supply kit will be provided for each household
  • Library staff will contact you when your kit is ready to be picked up
  • Kits can be picked up from the Port Colborne Public Library during curbside hours
    • The Zoom link to the program will be emailed to the email address you provided prior to the event taking place

3-2-1 Weather Launch: Atmosphere Traveler with David T. Chapman

Date: April 12, 2021 to July 12, 2021

Time: Daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Observe and investigate the fascinating science behind the weather. Become your family's weather forecaster by learning to read weather patterns just from looking at the sky outside your window. Our travel guide, weather expert David T. Chapman, takes us on a journey literally from the ground up.

“For anyone interested, we also still have April craft kits available for pick up,” said Susan. “There are crafts kits for all ages, including a pop-up rainbow, felt bug duo-tangs, and clay figurines. We hope you and your family stay healthy and safe during the April Break and we look forward to PORTicipating virtually with you.” 

To ensure the safety of staff and patrons, the Port Colborne Public Library is following all public health guidelines and provincial legislation, including offering contactless curbside pickup only, quarantining craft supplies for a minimum of four days prior to distributing them and all staff wear  proper personal protective equipment.
