Port Colborne’s annual tree giveaway returns Sept. 19 in support of Port Cares

The City of Port Colborne’s Environmental Advisory Committee will host its annual tree giveaway at the H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 19, giving residents an opportunity to bring home a tree while supporting Port Cares and the continued growth of the city’s urban tree canopy. 

In exchange for a tree, residents are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or make a monetary donation to Port Cares, helping support local individuals and families in need. Five hundred trees will be distributed to Port Colborne residents on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10 a.m., while supplies last. Residents are eligible to receive one tree per household and must bring proof of residence. 

Residents may choose from a variety of species, including: 

 The one- and two-gallon potted saplings will fit in the trunk or back seat of most vehicles and must be planted on private property in Port Colborne. 

Port Colborne’s tree giveaway initiatives support the City’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and the expansion of the city’s urban tree canopy. These initiatives promote biodiversity, help protect the environment and enhance quality of life throughout the community.
