official plan

Port Colborne residents are invited to help shape the future of their community by participating in upcoming public engagement initiatives for the City’s New Official Plan.

An Official Plan is a long-term planning document that guides how a municipality manages land use, community growth, infrastructure, and environmental protection. Port Colborne’s New Official Plan will guide planning and development decisions in the community through to 2056.

Building on feedback received during the first round of public engagement in February 2026, the City is continuing the process with more opportunities for residents to get involved. Upcoming engagement sessions will allow residents to meet with City staff, ask questions, share feedback, and help ensure the Plan reflects the priorities and values of the community.

Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming Open Houses at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre (550 Elizabeth St.):

  • Thursday, July 16, from 2 to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 22, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Port Colborne’s New Official Plan will reflect recent changes to provincial planning policies which place greater decision-making responsibility at the municipal level. The City remains dedicated to incorporating feedback from the community while ensuring the Plan aligns with the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement (PPS).

“As we move into this next phase of engagement, we’re looking forward to hearing more from the community and continuing these important conversations about Port Colborne’s long-term growth,” said Chief Planner, Erik Acs. “Resident input helps us shape a plan that reflects what matters most to our community.”
