The next time you drive on a smoothly paved road, walk through a carefully maintained park, or enjoy clean and safe water from your tap, take a moment to thank a Public Works professional.
From May 18 to 24, Port Colborne is celebrating National Public Works Week – an annual campaign recognizing the contributions of Public Works professionals across North America. These professionals dedicate their careers to enhancing the daily lives of residents through the maintenance and improvement of critical community infrastructure.
To mark the occasion, Port Colborne is launching a week-long social media campaign educating residents on the important projects Public Works professionals undertake throughout the city. Each day, the City will feature a different Public Works department – highlighting their contributions in the community.
Public Works professionals work around the clock to maintain safe and efficient City operations, including park and cemetery maintenance, water and wastewater services, road enhancements, infrastructure projects, and more.
“Our Public Works team greatly improves our daily lives, and National Public Works Week provides a fantastic opportunity to express our thanks and celebrate their key achievements,” explains Port Colborne CAO, Bryan Boles. “From maintaining the gardens in our beautiful parks to clearing our roads during icy conditions, we thank Public Works for all they do to keep Port Colborne running smoothly.”
National Public Works Week was established in the 1960s. Today, the celebratory week has expanded to bring together thousands of professionals in municipalities across North America. This year’s theme, People, Purpose, Presence, emphasizes the impact Public Works professionals have in building a stronger future for all.
The social media campaign will run throughout the week on the City of Port Colborne’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
