From maintaining parks in the summer to keeping roads clear during the winter, many of the everyday services residents rely on are made possible by Public Works professionals.
From May 17 to 23, Port Colborne is celebrating National Public Works Week. The annual campaign recognizes Public Works professionals’ dedication to improving the daily lives of residents through the maintenance and improvement of public facilities and infrastructure.
To mark the occasion, Port Colborne is launching a week-long social media campaign highlighting the important work Public Works teams carry out each day. Throughout the week, residents will learn more about the different Public Works departments, showcasing the essential role they play in supporting community services.
Public Works professionals play an important role in maintaining safe and efficient City operations, supporting essential services such as park and cemetery maintenance, infrastructure improvements, water and wastewater operations, and more.
“Behind every safe road, clean park, and reliable water service is a dedicated Public Works team,” says Port Colborne CAO, Bryan Boles. “This week gives us the opportunity to thank our Public Works professionals for the important work they do to keep our city running smoothly year-round.”
National Public Works Week was established in the 1960s and is now recognized by municipalities across North America. This year’s theme, Rooted in Service, Powered by Community, highlights the important role they play in supporting strong and thriving communities.
The social media campaign will run throughout the week on the City of Port Colborne’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
