Water in creek

For Sunday, December 5th, 2021, this notice is intended to update the public and local municipalities of the condition of the Lake Erie Shoreline as it relates to the Niagara Peninsula and the eastern portion of Haldimand County.

A low-pressure system is forecast to pass through Niagara bringing rain and strong sustained south to southwest winds of 50 km/hour or higher with gusts above 80 km/hour possible.

 The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (MNDMNRF) is currently predicting water levels to increase above current levels on Lake Erie by another 1.29m (4.2ft), to an elevation of 175.66m (IGLD1985). Significant wave heights of 1.7m (5.6ft) are also forecasted to occur along the Lake Erie shoreline. There is an increased risk of erosion due to strong waves is possible during this event. Peak water levels for this event will occur Monday evening.

Residents living along Lake Erie should pay close attention to water levels and waves in their area and are urged stay away from the shoreline of Lake Erie during this event.
