The City of Port Colborne is helping local businesses and organizations take a practical step toward becoming more accessible through the StopGap accessibility ramp program.
Delivered in partnership with the StopGap Foundation, the program provides eligible businesses and organizations with funding for custom-built, temporary accessibility ramps. Businesses and organizations with a single step at their main public entrance can apply for a ramp to assist individuals who use mobility devices, strollers, or who may have difficulty navigating the step.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a business or organization located in the City of Port Colborne
- Have a single step measuring between 2 and 7 inches (5.08 and 17.78 centimetres) at the main public entrance
- Carry insurance and provide proof of coverage annually
- Use the ramp only when requested and store it indoors when not in use to keep pathways clear
Successful applicants will be responsible for the upfront cost of the ramp, which will be fully reimbursed by the City. As the ramps are temporary and removable, building permits are not required.
Funding is limited, and eligible applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 23, 2026.
