bridge

The City advises residents and motorists of an upcoming bridge closure to accommodate structural steel rehabilitation work to the main steel tower pockets of the bridge, being completed by the St. Lawrence Seaway.

A full road closure (both lanes) will be in effect from January 10 to March 14, 2026, followed by daily closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 17, 18, and 19, 2026. This work will require equipment to operate on a 24/7 basis and may result in increased noise during the construction period.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured via Bridge 19 and Bridge 19A, with detour signage in place to guide motorists.

Pedestrian access will be limited: both sidewalks will be closed from January 10 to January 20, and again from approximately March 5 to March 14. From January 20 to March 5, one sidewalk will remain open, alternating between the north and south sides depending on construction activities.

Signage, temporary fencing, and overhead protection will be installed to ensure public safety and to clearly indicate which sidewalk is accessible at any given time.
