The City of Port Colborne’s annual Open House: Touch-a-Truck & Fire Prevention Kick-Off event returns Thursday, Oct. 8, welcoming families to get a behind-the-scenes look at City operations, climb aboard City vehicles and equipment, meet local firefighters and learn valuable fire safety tips.
Presented by Peters Construction Group, the event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.at the Engineering and Operations Centre and the Port Colborne Fire Hall.
At the Engineering and Operations Centre, located at 1 Killaly Street West, visitors can explore the trucks, vehicles and equipment used by City crews. Children can also take part in a hands-on watermain repair demonstration and explore a display of snowplows painted by local students through the annualPaint-a-Plow initiative.
Next door at the Port Colborne Fire Hall, located at 3 Killaly Street West, families can participate in interactive activities recognizing Fire Prevention Week, including:

“Fire safety starts with knowing how to prevent an emergency and what to do if one occurs,” saidPort Colborne Fire Chief,Stan Double.“The Open House makes these important lessons engaging and relevant to everyday life.”
