Proclamations
6.1 Mayor Steele proclaimed Oct. 26, 2025 to Nov. 11, 2025 as “Poppy Week” in the City of Port Colborne in honour of the men and women from Port Colborne who gave their lives during the two World Wars, the Korean War and the Afghanistan War.
6.2 Mayor Steele proclaimed Nov. 8, 2025, as Indigenous Veterans Day and he invited residents to remember and reflect on the long and proud tradition of Indigenous military service to Canada.
Presentations
7.1 Recreation Supervisor Luke Rowe, Business Community and Events Ambassador Olga Loeffen and Events Student Kennedy Stock presented a recap to Council of the 2025 Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival, presented by GIO Rail.
7.2 Assistant Museum Curator Tami Nail presented a recap to Council about the 2025 Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival activities at the Port Colborne Historical & Marine Museum.
Mayor’s Report
Mayor Steele gave a special thank you to museum staff for the Remembrance Day display in Council Chambers. He discussed the success of the cruise ship season, where Port Colborne welcomed more than 70 cruise ship visits. He said City crews will be performing maintenance on sections of the Friendship Trail in the upcoming week. He mentioned welcoming a group of City of Sault Ste. Marie representatives, who he joined to meet with the Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority to discuss partnerships for cargo and shipping services between the two port cities. He invited families to attend the monthly Ultimate Family Nights at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre from October to April for free movies, skating and swimming. He encouraged residents to share their thoughts on the development of the City’s Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan. He asked residents to mark their calendars for Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. when the annual lighted Santa Claus parade will return to Port Colborne. He announced that on Oct. 22 he received the first official poppy from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 to mark the beginning of this year’s poppy campaign. He congratulated Port Colborne native David Lametti on becoming the Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations.
Regional Councillor’s Report
Regional Councillor Vance Badawey also congratulated David Lametti. He mentioned that the Province of Ontario will be announcing next steps in the appointment of a new Regional Chair. He mentioned investment coming into Niagara and the region’s involvement in trans-Atlantic trade. He asked not to underestimate the impact of the Welland Canal on the economy. He said it is imperative that everyone continues to work together to strengthen the capacity needed to keep up with economic growth. He said the Region is studying the feasibility of building a new sewage pumping station in Port Colborne. He mentioned the Region is continuing to work on its budget.
Staff Reports
11.3 a. Council approved the Fire Master Plan and Community Risk Assessment.
11.3 b. Council approved an amendment to a lease agreement with Vale Canada Ltd. to remove a small parcel of land at Nickel Beach along Reuter Road.
Staff Remarks
CAO Bryan Boles reminded everyone the strong mayor budget will be presented next Tuesday.
Councillors’ Remarks
Councillor Bodner reminded residents of the Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Cedar Bay Centennial Park. He mentioned the impact local teachers can have on the community.
Councillor Hoyle thanked staff for helping him with his recent inquiries.
Councillor Elliott asked about when Christmas at the Museum would be taking place. He was told it will be Sunday, Dec. 7.
Councillor Bruno passed on a request from a resident to have washroom in a local park open later in the season.
Councillor Aquilina said she presented a 25th anniversary certificate for People Helping People Achieve at the Guild Hall.
