The City of Port Colborne will close administrative buildings while other City buildings will experience differing hours during the holidays. There will also be a variety of activities taking place throughout the city, as well as additional key information to be aware of.

Closures and holiday hours

Administrative buildings

The City of Port Colborne’s planned holiday closure will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23 with City administrative buildings reopening Monday, Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m.

Vale Health & Wellness Centre

The Vale Health & Wellness Centre holiday hours differ from normal on the following days:

  • Dec. 24 – Closed at 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 25 – Closed
  • Dec. 26 – Closed at 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 31 – Closed at 6 p.m. (or after the New Year’s Eve event is over)
  • Jan. 1 – Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

YMCA of Niagara

The YMCA of Niagara hours differ from normal on the following days:

  • Dec. 24– Closed at 1 p.m.
  • Dec. 25 – Closed  
  • Dec. 26 – Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 31 – Closed at 6 p.m. 
  • Jan. 1 – Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Port Colborne Public Library

The library’s holiday hours differ from normal on the following days:

  • Dec. 24 - Closed
  • Dec. 25 - Closed
  • Dec. 26 - Closed
  • Dec. 31 – Closes early at 3 p.m. 
  • Jan. 1 - Closed

The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum

  • The Museum, as previously scheduled, is closed for the season on Dec. 20, 2025.

Public Works

  • Essential City services, including but not limited to road maintenance, snow removal and water and wastewater operations will continue.
  • For Public Works emergencies after-hours, or during the holiday closures, please call 905-835-2900.

Free holiday events

Participants in Port Colborne’s holiday events are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for Port Cares.

New Year's Eve Family Celebration:

New Year’s Eve will be celebrated early at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre on Dec. 31 from 2 to 6 p.m. Free family activities include swimming, skating, games, fireworks, and more are available for all ages. The Vale Health & Wellness Centre will be hosting a variety of FREE Public Skates over the break for families to enjoy. Upcoming dates include:

Ultimate Family Night at Vale Health and Wellness Centre

The next Ultimate Family Night at Vale is Dec. 27 at 5:30 p.m. The Grinch will be shown in the gym, a free swim will be offered from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. and a free skate will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Niagara Region services

Transit

Niagara Transit Regional Routes and Microtransit/Specialized Service will not be operating on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1. On Dec. 24, there will be no routes after 9 p.m. For a list of holiday service hours, visit https://nrtransit.ca/about-niagara-transit/holiday-service-hours/

Holiday Garbage Collection

There will be no collection on Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) or Jan. 1 (New Year's Day). Collection will shift by one day during those weeks. 

Residential properties may place out an additional two bags/cans of garbage per unit, without garbage tags, on their first garbage collection day following Dec. 25.

Christmas Tree Collection 

Christmas tree collection is on your regular collection day during the week of Jan. 5 to 9.

Trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m. with all ornaments and decorations removed. Trees wrapped in plastic or buried in snow will not be collected. No artificial trees.
