Victoria Day Photos

The Victoria Day long weekend marks the beginning of the outdoor recreation season in Port Colborne, with beaches, parks, spray pads and other outdoor amenities reopening for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Beaches

Port Colborne’s popular waterfront destinations, Nickel Beach and Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, are officially opening for the season on May 15, welcoming beachgoers back to the shores of Lake Erie.

At Nickel Beach, a variety of parking options are available for the 2026 season, including daily and hourly parking through the Honk Mobile app. Seasonal parking passes, including the Gold Pass and the Leisure Pass, are also available for 2026. More details and purchase information are available online at www.portcolborne.ca/nickelbeach

The City is continuing its environmental stewardship efforts through ongoing dune restoration initiatives and the expansion of dune fencing in select areas to help protect and rebuild the natural shoreline. The Nickel Beach seaweed report will also return this season, providing updates online and through signage posted at the beach regarding current conditions. The report can be viewed online at www.portcolborne.ca/seaweedreport

Several popular activities and programs will return to Nickel Beach this summer, including Splashtown Niagara, which returns to the water June 26, the beach lounger rental program, the take-a-toy, leave-a-toy bin, and the designated Dog Zone. Visitors are reminded that dogs must remain leashed at all times, and owners are required to clean up after their pets. Enforcement will be in place throughout the season, and failure to comply may result in fines under City by-laws, including fines of $250 for off-leash dogs and $150 for failing to clean up after a pet.

New beach additions for 2026 include an extended mobility mat to improve beach accessibility and the installation of a new foot-washing station for sandy toes. Also for the 2026 season, Flip Flop Forts will offer tent rentals at the beach from June 26 to Sept. 7, operating Thursdays through Sundays.
