The City of Port Colborne’s community grant program is now accepting the first-round of applications from non-profit organizations until Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.

As approved at the Nov. 23, 2020 Council Meeting, the community grant program will increase by 20 per cent. This year the grant committee will distribute more than $35,000 to non-profit organizations, charitable organizations, and service organizations that benefit the citizens of Port Colborne and enhance the quality of the community, especially during a pandemic.

“The annual grant program is one of the many ways the City looks to give back to the community,” said Mayor Steele. “It’s important that we continue to support local organizations that go above and beyond to help our residents. Council and staff are proud of this initiative and are committed to seeing it expand, as evident in the 20 per cent increase this year.”

Organizations can only apply once per fiscal year, with the first round of applications due Monday, Feb. 1, 2021. The deadline to apply for the second round of grants is Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

The Grant Policy Committee established in December 2015 when council passed by-law 6317/143/15 and oversees the distribution grants to non-profit organizations. Grant committee members include Mayor William Steele, Councillor Eric Beauregard, Councillor Gary Bruno, Bea Kenny, and Brenda Haymes.

“I encourage any non-profit organization, charitable organization, or service club to get involved,” said Mayor Steele. “I know COVID-19 has impacted many organizations and my hope is that this community grant will help alleviate financial stresses or help with the continuation of various programming during the pandemic.”

The grant policy and application can be found on the Grant Policy Committee page of the City’s website.
