Road & Sidewalk Maintenance

Road resurfacing helps improve road conditions and extend the life of existing pavement. Depending on the condition of the road, resurfacing may include:

• Hot mix overlay: A new layer of asphalt is placed over the existing road.
• Mill and overlay: A portion of the existing asphalt is removed before a new layer is applied.
• Surface treatment: Asphalt emulsion and fine aggregate are applied to the existing road surface or base material.

Spot repairs are completed to address potholes, utility work and other small areas of damaged asphalt.

Hot rubberized sealant is applied to cracks to help prevent further deterioration and extend the life of the road.

A stabilization solution is applied to surface-treated roads to help reduce airborne dust.

Street sweeping takes place from spring to fall to help keep roads and gutters clear of debris.

How you can help:

• Minimize street parking where possible.
• Keep driveway and sidewalk debris off the road.
• Avoid sweeping gutter or roadside material into piles.
• Remove hockey and basketball nets from the edge of the road.

The City's annual roadside ditching program generally begins in early spring. Work may include ditch excavation, culvert replacement and roadside brushing.

Residents may notice increased truck and equipment traffic while work is underway. Temporary road closures may also be required, with access maintained for local traffic and deliveries.
