The City supports a transparent, collaborative approach that:

  • Protects local decision-making and community identity
  • Improves service delivery and accountability
  • Reduces duplication and unnecessary costs
  • Considers the financial impacts on residents and businesses
  • Ensures municipalities and residents have a meaningful voice in decisions

Port Colborne remains committed to working with Niagara Region, neighbouring municipalities and the Province of Ontario to explore solutions that benefit residents.

Why Governance Is Being Discussed

  • Service delivery: Reviewing which services are provided by Niagara Region and local municipalities, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

  • Decision-making: Examining municipal governance structures, representation and accountability.
