The City of Port Colborne is constructing a new licensed child care facility that will create 49 spaces for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

Project Location

The new child care facility is located at 76 Main Street in Port Colborne.

About the Project

The City is investing in a new child care facility to improve access to child care for Port Colborne residents. The project will transform the former Port Colborne Visitor Information Centre into a modern, inclusive, and purpose-built child care space.

Once complete, the facility will be operated by the YMCA of Niagara and will accommodate:

  • 10 infants
  • 15 toddlers
  • 24 preschool-aged children

Working closely with the YMCA of Niagara, the City has developed an architectural design that reflects the heritage and character of the existing building while accommodating the needs of a fully licensed child care centre. The historic portion of the structure will also be available for community use outside regular child care hours.

Project Updates

The foundation, framing, roof and windows are complete. Contractors are working on interior plumbing, electrical, and heating and cooling systems.
