The City of Port Colborne is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate who will provide vision, leadership, strategic direction to the Port Colborne Fire Department as well as ensure compliance with legislation, by-laws, rules and regulations, and Fire and Corporate policies.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief is responsible for managing all aspects of the Municipality’s Fire Services Department.  This position oversees fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation and inspection, public education and emergency planning and rescue operations.   The Fire Chief ensures compliance with municipal policies, by-laws and other legislation that affects the Department’s operations.

As a corporate leader, this position is responsible for integrating strategic planning, operational activities, and the interest of stakeholders. The role also includes ensuring that the City’s mission, vision, values and council/corporate goals and objectives are incorporated into strategic and operational activities and services.  

 You have a post-secondary diploma in Fire Services, public administration or related field and are a Fire College graduate with ten (10) years’ experience as a fire fighter and five (5) years’ experience as a Company Officer.

 You have obtained or are working towards completion of the following:

  • NFPA Certification as a Fire Officer III or equivalent. Preference will be given to a candidate with Fire Officer IV certification
  • Certification as a Community Emergency Management Coordinator is an asset
  • NFPA Certification as a Fire Inspector II or equivalent
  • NFPA Certification as a Fire Investigator or equivalent
  • NFPA Certification as a Fire Instructor II or equivalent
  • NFPA Certification as a Public Educator or equivalent
  • NFPA Certification as an Incident Safety Officer or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of a valid (clean) DZ drivers license

 This is a full-time position based on 35 hours per week with an annual salary of $137,709 - $161,100 and a competitive benefit and pension package.
