Dr. Xu will begin to see patients in his Family Practice December 9th, 2009 at the Port Colborne Site of the Niagara Health System. This was a collaborative effort to bring Primary Health Care to Port Colborne to ensure that all residents of Port Colborne and Wainfleet will be rostered to a Family Physician.  Applications are available at both City Hall and at Dr. Xu's clinic at Port Colborne Site for residents who do not have a family physician.

Port Colborne/Wainfleet are actively seeking family physicians to join the existing medical community. We are in need of family physicians because of continued growth in our practices and the retirement of several physicians in the coming years. The family physicians in Port Colborne/Wainfleet have a range of practice interests, and participate fully with teaching medical students from several medical schools in Ontario, including McMaster University, University of Toronto, and University of Ottawa. Port Colborne/Wainfleet is proud to host a Rural Medical Week every year through the Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP). We host students, and our physicians are preceptors in all areas of family medicine.

Port Colborne/Wainfleet is committed to finding and retaining quality physicians for the community. Port Colborne and Wainfleet are vibrant communities on the shores of Lake Erie that are minutes away from many major centres but surrounded by water and green space.   We have an active medical community and our family physicians are involved in a wide range of clinical activities including office practices, ER work, GP anesthesia, office procedures, counselling, addictions/methadone clinic, eating disorders treatment and birth control clinics.  Many of our physicians in town have been active in teaching medical students, clinical clerks and residents for years.  They have faculty appointments through McMaster University and we are a community who is active with the Rural Ontario Medical Program in teaching students and hosting an annual Rural Medical Week to showcase our opportunities for medical students.  We are also involved in teaching through the Niagara Campus of the DeGroote Medical School at McMaster University.

Port Colborne and Wainfleet are actively seeking medical professionals to come to our community for locums, learning, lifestyle and long-term opportunities.  We are also committed to excellence not only among our existing physicians, but also by working to teach future doctors in our community. We have an enthusiastic medical staff that is eager to welcome students for elective rotations or core family medicine rotations. We have a fully furnished apartment provided for students and residents while they are on rotation in Port Colborne and Wainfleet, that is close to the hospital and practices, but leaves you space to enjoy all that we have to offer in your free time. The community is eager to welcome learners both professionally and personally in work settings and on the street downtown.
