Candidates Financial Statements

Candidate Financial Statements - General Information

Everyone that has filed a nomination paper with the City to participate in the Municipal Elections as a candidate must in turn file their financial statement, and supplementary financial statements, if applicable, with the City Clerk after each election. These statements detail the income and expenses incurred during the candidate's campaign.

A candidate shall file with the Clerk with whom the nomination was filed, a financial statement, in the prescribed form, for a regular election, on or before 2:00 p.m. on the last Friday in March in the year following the regular election (March 25, 2011).

A candidate may, before the last day for filing a financial statement, apply to the Ontario Court of Justice to extend the time for filing the financial statement. The court may grant an extension of up to 90 days.

If the candidate has a deficit at the time the election campaign period would otherwise end, an extension to the campaign period can be established with the Clerk.

Please refer to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 for complete information regarding candidate financial reporting requirements. Detailed information is also contained in the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Candidate's Manual.

Please click on the link below to access the financial reporting form prescribed by the Province of Ontario.
Financial Statement - Auditor's Report (Form 4)

All financial statements are public documents. The Clerk must retain the statements until the new council takes office after the 2014 regular election. The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 provides that the Clerk shall make the financial statements filed available at no charge for viewing on a website on the Internet or another electronic format as soon as possible after the document is filed. These documents may be inspected in person during normal office hours or by clicking on the corresponding links below.

Any person may make extracts from the documents and is entitled to copies of the documents but must only do so knowing that the information obtained shall only be used for election purposes as per the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
